Stress is probably one of the most harmful states that we can experience particularly when the stress is repetitive or prolonged. The effects of stress on a persons' psychological, emotional and physiological state can be responsible for many health, emotional and psychological problems. When we are triggered or stimulated in a way that is incongruent with our mental or physical coping capacity, our body reacts with a stress response. The brain is designed to react in a flight or fight capacity to a stressor; this being a perfectly normal response if we are in imminent danger. Our pre-existing styles of thinking and dealing with things may seem out of our control at times leading to detrimental and negative consequences. These are often conditioned responses learned in childhood or through stressful and traumatic situations.
